Chief Inspector and Lecturer of the Kalutara Police Training College
Sunil Kumara, retiring from a long period of service in the Sri Lanka
Police Service, possesses a remarkable service record in the Sri Lanka
Police Service as well as in the Kalutara Police Training College, as he
had sacrificed 30 years of his period of 40 years service to the Police
Training College, said Senior Superintendent of Police and Director of
the Police Training College Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, at a felicitation
ceremony, held at the Police Training College premises on the retirement
of Chief Lecturer and Chief Inspector Sunil Kumara. SSP Dharmaratne said
that Sunil Kumara acted as the supervising officer of 7 officers
including himself, who were selected for training as Assistant
Superintendents of Police nearly fifteen years ago at the Police
Training School in Kalutara.

“Sunil Kumara was one lecturer and teacher who had been well trained
in performing his duties perfectly and punctually. We too were trained
to be punctual and duty conscious by initiating his example,” he said.
“Because such great qualities should be preserved while in service,
his retirement has created a great loss to the staff of the Police
Training College,” he observed.
He said that CI Sunil Kumara was a person who never considered his
civil life as separate from his life as a police officer. He lived quite
happily, attending to his various duties as a police officer, even
during his week ends as well as public holidays.
He also considered it a pleasure to attend to the requirements of his
colleagues what ever they were and derived much pleasure in completing
such requirements fully, SSP Dharmaratne said.
CI Sunil Kumara, addressing the ceremony, said that he never worked
for his personal happiness, but performed his duties to the best of his
ability and to the satisfaction of his superior officers. Hence, he was
able to retire with a light and satisfied heart. He added that he never
waited till others asked him to work. He considered it a requirement
that once a person is given a job, he should try to fulfill his duties
to the best of his ability willingly, whether it be night or day,
irrespective of its weight or lightness.
That was the reason why he was happy whenever the police service came
to his mind.
His advice as an experienced officer was that each person could make
his life pleasant and full of happiness if he or she determined to
deliver his or her duties without prejudice, CI Sunil Kumara concluded. |
