Fatal sting

A woman stung by a cobra, died while she was being taken to hospital.

The victim was identified as Uru Warige Heen Menika of Gurukumbura, Mahiyangana.

The mother of three aged 37 had gone out of the house on June 7 around 8.30 pm. The woman had then screamed that she was stung by a cobra, her family members said.

Heen Menika was rushed to the Divisional Hospital in Dambana and from there to the Base Hospital in Mahiyanganaya where she was pronounced dead before admission, they said.

Mahiyangana Police are investigating.
 


Garbage collection held up

A bad odour is pervading the air in Kattankudy MC area due to heaps of garbage lying uncollected for the last several days. Kattankudy Mayor N. H. M. Azwer said the garbage collection was held up due to the lack of a dumping ground.

Now that the Batticaloa GA has provided a temporary location in Vakarai to dump garbage cleared from Kattankudy steps would be taken to restart garbage collection and resolve the problem soon.


Medical equipment donated

A consignment of medical equipment valued at Rs 6 million was donated to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital by the T D M Institute on June 5.


Pinnacle unveiling

The pinnacle unveiling ceremony of the new cetiya built at the Kudawewa Pushparama Viharaya in Nattandiya will be held on June 13 at 9 am under the patronage of Kelaniya University Chancellor Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thera.


Dental clinic opening

Tissa Vidyalaya-Kelaniya Dental Clinic will be opened by Construction, Engineering Services Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa today at 9.30 am at the Vidyalaya premises.

Several ministers and parliamentarians will attend the opening ceremony.
 


PS to reconstruct ayurvedic dispensary

Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha will reconstruct the Ayurvedic dispensary at Pallewatte in the Ginigathena area in the Nuwara Eliya district.

The Ambagamuwa PS has set aside Rs. 500,000 to reconstruct the Ayurvedic dispensary which was in a dilapidated state during the past few years.

Ambagamuwa PS was compelled to run its Ayurvedic dispensary in a rented house in the Pallewatte village during the past several months due to the dilapidated state of the Ayurveda dispensary building.

The PS will be able to house its Ayurvedic dispensary again with the recommissioning of the building.


No dancing teacher

There is no dancing teacher at the Kelanigama Vidyalaya, Degampitiya in the Hatton educational zone in the Nuwara Eliya district. As a result, students of the Kelanigama Vidyalaya are in a quandary to study the aesthetic subject of dancing.

The transfer of the only dancing teacher to another school in the same educational zone made by the educational authorities some time back without making a replacement, has attributed to the situation.

The affected students of the Kelanigama Vidyalaya and their parents request the educational authorities to take steps to remedy the situation.


Tree falls on three-wheeler

A man travelling in a three wheeler from Deniyaya to Beverly, was injured when a tree fell on the three wheeler due to strong winds. This incident took place at Kadigala 109th culvert on Deniyaya - Viharalena road last Monday. The injured man was admitted to the Deniyaya hospital. Deniyaya Police are investigating.
