Solid SC tops Champions League point table

K A D A Jayashan of Nandimithra SC scored three goals to defeat New Youngs SC by 3-1 in a group B match of the Champions League 2013 worked off at Albert Peiris Stadium , Wennappuwa on Saturday.

Jayashan scored the first goal in the 21st minute to lead Nandimithra 1-0 until the 61st minute when D A H Priyankara of New Youngs booted the equalizer.

Jayashan again in the 79 and 87 minutes scored two goals to make sure his team receive three points in the first round.

At Nawalapitiya, Up Country Lions SC overcame Don Bosco SC by 3-2 in another encounter on the same day. Don Bosco took the early lead with two goals in the first half with W A P Silva and R M N Rajapaksha converting their team efforts in the 28th and 32nd minutes. Just three minutes later V Pratrick Hinex socred the first goal for the Lions while K Martin added another one just before the half time.

It was a tough battle until the 85th minute when Rajapaksha booted the winning goal for the Lions.

Some matches in the stage five in both groups that had been scheduled on Saturday and Sunday were not played due to bad weather ( Colombo FC vs Saunders Scat , Java Lane SC vs Blue Star SC at City Football Complex , Negambo Youth SC vs Ratnam SC at Don Bosco Ground, Matara City SC vs Super Sun SC at Veranon Fernando Stadium, SL Air Force SC vs SL Navy SC at Ekala Ground. Pelicans SC vs SL Police SC at Maliyadewa Ground, Kalutara Park vs Renown SC at Vernon Fernando Stadium )

Solid SC – Anuradhapura tops the points table after five weeks with 11 points.

They have won three matches and drawn two. Sri Lanka Army is in second place with nine points. Blue Star SC who play in group A also have secured nine points after five matches.

The tournament continuous with stage six matches this weekend.
