Windies in 17 run win over Sri Lanka

West Indies beat Sri Lanka by 17 runs in their final warm up match played at Edgbaston yesterday. The West Indies taking the first lease of the wicket rattled up 297 for six wickets in their 50 overs. Opener Johnson Charles led the way with an aggresive 55 This was followed by a partnership of 122 runs between Darren Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan before Sarwan retired to give other batsmen a chance.

Darren Bravo also retired with his score at 71. Thisara Perera (two for 48)and Shameendra Eranga (two for 38) were the most impressive bowlers for Sri Lanka.

The Lankans in reply lost two early wickets of openers Kusal Janith Perera (24) and Tillekeratne Dilshan (15). The experienced duo of Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara steadied the innings with a partnership of 62 runs.

The Lankans were not too happily placed at one stage at 196 for eight. But the ninth wicket pair of Nuwan Kulasekara (40 not out) and Dilhara Lokuhettige (42) hit out lustily to put on 73 runs before the latter got out and Sri Lanka were later all out for 280.

Dwayne Bravo ( three for 26) was the most impressive of the West Indian bowlers.

He was ably supported by Ravi Rampaul(two for 46) and Sunil Narayan ( two for 26) as the West Indies triumphed by 17 runs.
