www.edoctor.lk opens new era in Social Media

Online Sri Lankan doctors may seem like one of the features Srilankan people would only dream about a few years back, but now it has become a reality. www.edoctor.lk was launched few months back by a group of dedicated Sri Lankan doctors. Their dedication and commitment had paved the way for establishment of website eDoctor.lk, which is not only a success but in a short time it has become a very popular in social media circles in Sri Lanka.

Social media like Facebook, Tweeter, YouTube, LinkedIn are some of very popular sites among the youth population in Sri Lanka. According to Dr. Harsha Jayakody, founder of www.edoctor.lk website, during past few months eDoctor has created a lot of awareness among the young population regarding various health issues in an educational aspect, through all these social media networks.

As Dr. Jayakody further describes, in the present, most of these social media networks are being used to share gossips, photos and even sexual content, which people spend hours and hours idling in front of the computers, eDoctor.lk has created a new era among these social media networks.

Health tip posters designed by Sri Lankan doctors are posted in these popular pages. So while people spend time idling, they can spend few minutes to read these health tips and update their knowledge about current health issues or common health conditions. Dr. Jayakody says, out of all these sites, eDoctor Facebook fan page holds the most popularity. The newsletters published weekly has being attracting even young crowd to read these information and is being able to create health awareness among these groups. eDoctor Facebook fan page is also enriched with Health Quizzes, Puzzles and more.

eDoctor.lk website carries valuable health related articles at their article portal which is also becoming popular according to the recent Alexa website statistics.

According to the editor Dr. Thilina Chathuranga, these articles are shared in all popular social media networks. According to the motto of eDoctor ‘Healthy life for a better tomorrow’, the ultimate goal of this is to build up a healthy nation in the future.

eDoctor has not forgotten the middle age crowd who uses internet also. According to Dr. Malinda De Silva who is responsible for the website operations, ‘Interactive Health Tools’ is another popular scope of the website. Public is able to calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI), their ideal body weight, any many more using these health tools.

Out of these Dr. De Silva says, “the most popular is the non-communicable disease checker which is made according to the Sri Lankan health needs. After filling the required fields in this checker, it will calculate the risk of developing a non-communicable disease such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia in the future if you are not on current treatment for any of those diseases.”

eDoctor YouTube channel is the latest addition to the social media network. It has being a habit of most people to watch various videos in YouTube.

These facilities are available in Sinhala for the benefit of people who do not read English and Tamil language introduction will come out soon on these sites. All these interactive facilities and features are absolutely free of cost.
