Browns Enhances Agriculture Knowledge among the Youths
Commenced practical sessions on agricultural
mechanisms for students:
Rendering yeoman service on behalf of the country's agricultural
sector for over a century, Browns has taken many steps to upgrade the
knowledge of the farming folk of the country to better the productivity
and progress of the agricultural sector.
Considering the importance of the farming community to build a richer
nation, Browns Agriculture SBU, recently took the initiative to conduct
a training session for the students of Sri Lanka Schools of Agriculture
on Agriculture Mechanisms. The training includes practical sessions as
well as theoretical sessions.
Commencing operations in 1872 as a corporate entity and being the
pioneers behind the importing the tractor Massey Ferguson, which was
manufactured in England, transformed the operations of the agriculture
sector in Sri Lanka. With such a ground breaking introduction, Browns
was able to instill a revolutionary change for the domestic agricultural
industry, which led the company to win the hearts of the Sri Lankan
farming community to date. Today, Browns imports 'TAFE' - the number one
selling four wheel tractor in Sri Lanka, which is loved by the farmer
community providing the farmer with tons of value additions, such as a
free insurance cover for tractor, tractor registration free of charge
and the best after sales service in the industry.
This prestigious institution was established to educate the farmers
on the scientific methodology behind agriculture. Being the first
institution of the kind, the Sri Lanka Schools of Agriculture had seen
over 2000 graduates pass out, who are now at the helms of state and
private sector institutes, which are related to agriculture, one of them
being the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, former Prime Minister D. S.
Senanayake. The significance of this institution lies with the fact that
new projects and advice for the institution are furnished by past
students of the Sri Lanka Schools of Agriculture, who still stands
committed to proliferate the knowledge of farming to the youngsters in
the field.
Commenting on the partnership, Group Managing Director/CEO, at Browns
Murali Prakash said, 'On behalf of the Browns Group, I find it an honour
to partner with SLCA on this valuable initiative. It is our primary
objective to develop the livelihood of the farming community. The Browns
Agriculture SBU together with SAPSA, was fully equipped with the much
needed knowledge and tools to educate the students who participate at
these training sessions.
A 360° plan has been laid out to provide each individual with the
much needed practical and theoretical knowledge. It is a great honour
for us to work with an organization such as the SAPSA, which has
produced many academics who work towards the development of Sri Lanka's
agriculture.
Rohitha Nanayakkara, the President of Sri Lanka Schools of
Agriculture Past Students General Association, expressed his views as
follows: "I'm delighted to be able to establish this agreement with
Browns on behalf of SAPSA. Brown & Company PLC, is undoubtedly the
market leader for four-wheel tractors in this country. For the last few
decades, Browns have made a great contribution towards the farmers in
the country through agro-mechanization.
It is my belief that as a result of this agreement, many students
would improve their knowledge of agro - mechanism."
SAPSA has 5 branches located in Kundasale, Palwehara,
Angunakolapalassa, Vavuniya and Karapincha. Using mechanical technology
has become a crucial part of progressing in the agricultural sector,
which plays an important role in Sri Lanka's development.
