The first ever Chairperson of the National Savings Bank’s 41 years
history, veteran Banker W A Nalani assumed duties yesterday. She said
that she would use her vast experience to guide the bank to an even
higher elevation in the local banking sector. Nalani said they have
plans to expand their branch network and also increase their asset base
mainly promoting savings.
“Human capital is one of the biggest assets of the bank and we will
take steps to conduct more programmes to educate them on IT and latest
banking technology,” she told the Daily News Business.She said that with
over 25 banks in Sri Lanka the completion in the banking sector was high
but that there was a fair playing field.
Nalaini is a graduate from the University of Colombo, with a Bachelor
of Arts Degree in Economics (Hons) and Bachelor of Philosophy in
Economics. She has a distinguished career in banking spanning over 37
years. She also has served as the President of the Association of
Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka and the GM/ CEO of the Bank of Ceylon.
Also, as a committee member of the Alumni Association of University of
Colombo.
In 2009 Nalani was awarded with the “Zonta Award for Excellence” in
the banking category.
