Woman remanded in forgery case
A former Agrarian Services development officer who produced forged
documents duplicating the Agrarian Service Commissioner's signature to
transfer paddy field deeds into land deeds was remanded until May 15
when produced before the Kandy Magistrate's Court. Acting on
information, the Kandy division crime investigation branch arrested the
61-year-old woman in Geli Oya on Saturday.
Man electrocuted
A 54-year-old man in Kaludewala, Matale was electrocuted when an
electric wire burnt and collapsed on him on Monday.
H Wijesinghe faced the mishap while returning home from a nearby
shop.
An accidental spark in the wire had caused one side to collapse on
him.
Matale Police are investigating.
Painter drowns
A painter attached to the Sri Lanka Railway Department drowned when
he accidentally fell into the Moda Ela while painting a railway bridge
at Athuruwella in Bentota on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as G H Ariyaratne, 39, of Maggona.
Suspect arrested
The Colombo Crime Division arrested a suspect who allegedly failed to
pay more than Rs 3 million after having purchased a stock of A4 papers
from a private firm on outstanding payment. He was produced before
Aluthkade no 4 Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Motorcyclist dies
A motorcyclist died and the pillion rider sustained critical injuries
when a motorcycle collided head on with a lorry at Halpe in Ella
yesterday morning.
M M Roshan Nalinda Marasinghe, 23, of Hali Ela died in the incident.
The other motorcyclist is receiving treatment at the Badulla Hospital.
Ella Police arrested the lorry driver.
Treasure hunters arrested
Rattota Police arrested seven suspects while digging a private land
in Gallumale with the intention of finding a treasure. Tools and
implements, a van and two three wheelers used in the illegal act were
also seized form their possession .
They were produced before the Matale Magistrate's Court yesterday. |
