Fake note lands man in jail
An accused in a fake notes case who pleaded
guilty to charges on two counts of keeping 21 forged Rs. 500 and Rs.
1,000 notes in his possession with the intention of using them as
genuine notes, was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment
suspended for 10 years and fined Rs 100,000 by Chilaw Provincial
High Court Judge W M M Malanie Gunaratne.

Customs officials yesterday destroyed a stock of
medicine and cosmetics worth Rs 17 million brought to the country
illegally from April 1 to May 7 violating the Cosmetics Devices and
Drug Authority Act 980.

National Ranaviru Commemoration Month launched
Sri Lanka yesterday launched the National
Ranaviru Commemoration Month to honour the war heroes, following a
ceremony held at the Temple Trees under the patronage of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa. The daughter of war hero KMUSK Udugama who made
the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the nation on March 10, 2008,
pinned onto the President the first Ranaviru flag launching the
month-long event.
