Fake note lands man in jail

An accused in a fake notes case who pleaded guilty to charges on two
counts of keeping 21 forged Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes in his
possession with the intention of using them as genuine notes, was
sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment suspended for 10 years
and fined Rs 100,000 by Chilaw Provincial High Court Judge W M M Malanie
Gunaratne.
The judge also sentenced the accused for two terms of six months
simple imprisonment in default of the fine.
The accused from Maduwankul;iya was charged with having nine Rs 1,000
forged notes and 12 Rs 500 forged notes in his possession at Battuluoya
on or around June 9, 2005 with the fraudulent intention of using them as
legal tender which is a punishable offence.
