Hospital staff renders important service - Douglas
The service rendered by hospital staff is important and special. They
should work with commitment in discharging their duties, said
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas
Devananda.

He said so chairing the Jaffna Hospital Development Committee meeting
at the hospital premises on April 1. The state spends billions of rupees
for treatment of outdoor and in house patients, the minister said.
He said the government, using state funds and funds from Japan, built
a new building with modern facilities including theatres. The medical
officers and nursing staff should work collectively to provide the best
treatment for patients, adhering to the ethics of the medical
profession, he said.
The minister said the mortality rate of infants and nursing mothers
had risen recently and instructed the director to resort to relevant
steps in this regard. Pointing out the shortcomings of the hospital, the
committee members insisted the necessity of fixing CCTV cameras in the
hospital premises.
