Oil refinery to produce 6,000 jobs

The oil refinery being set up in Hambantota will provide 6,000 direct employment opportunities for youths in the district, the project engineer said.

Crude oil imported for this oil refinery will be refined and exported to foreign countries.

A volume of 300 mega watts of electricity will also be generated at the oil refinery which will be added to the national grid.

Sea water will be desalinated and used. As such there will not be a shortage of water for residents, the project director said.

Apart from refined oil, gasoline and diesel will also be produced at this oil refinery, he said.
