As far as there is unity among plantation workers, the Ceylon
Worker's Congress will strengthen and nobody will be able to shake it,
said Livestock Development and Rural Community Development Minister and
CWC General Secretary Arumugam Thondaman.
He was addressing a meeting at the Public Bus Terminals, Nuwara Eliya
on May 1. Minister Arumugam Thondaman said plantation workers have faith
in him.
"I shall always be with the people of the plantation community. The
Indian community in plantations are safeguarded by the CWC. I will work
towards getting ownership of houses in which they live," he said. CWC is
the only trade union that can achieve the wage increment, he added."It
is only when the community is with us that we can safeguard them," he
said.
CWC is still operating on the ways shown by late leader
Soumiyamoorthy Thondaman. I call upon all plantation workers to unite
under one banner and rally round the CWC for a better future," he said.
