A freak abnormal size owl which got entangled in an overhead transmission line caused an electricity blackout in Ingiriya on Tuesday around 7 p.m plunging the whole area into darkness. A Ceylon Electricity Board breakdown team which rushed to the area to restore electricity after being alerted by inconvenienced residents, found that an owl had caused the blackout getting entangled on the live wires.

They found it to be an abnormal size bird, about seven feet in length which had died of electrocution. The dead owl was removed and electricity restored. The following morning curios crowds visited the scene to have glimpse of the bird.
