Sri Lanka University Games 2013 :

University of Sri Jayawardenapura men’s badminton champions

University of Sri Jayawardenapura won the men’s badminton championship when they defeated University of Moratuwa at UoM new gymnasium in the finals of the 11th Sri Lanka University Games continued for the seventh day. Having lost to University of Moratuwa in the first singles by 21-12, 21-14 University of Sri Jayawardenapura won the second singles by 21-14, 21-15 and did the same in the third singles by defeating their opponents by 21-14, 21-16. The champions also won the first doubles by 21-16,15-21, 21-19.

University of Kelaniya had the better of the hosts, UoM in the women’s finals where they defeated the latter in three games except for the second singles. First single UoK won 21/10, 21/15. 2nd singles UoM won 17/21, 14/21. UoK won the third single by 21/03, 21/04 and the first double by 21/13, 18/21, 21/14

In badminton Men’s Consolation Finals University of Colombo overcame University of Peradeniya when they won the first, third and second double to secure the third place.

University of Peradeniya won the third place in the women’s badminton by defeating Wayamba University. UoP won the first, second singles and the second doubles.

Volleyball

University of Ruhuna who came all the way from down south made a harvest by qualifying for the final in the men’s volleyball yesterday at National Youth Services Centre, Maharagama by defeating University of Visual and Performing Arts in straight sets 3-0. (25-21,25-12,25-20 ). It will be a tough battle against the other finalist, Sabaragamuwa University who got through to the final when they defeated UoSJ in the other semi final by 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 27-25).

The losers in the semi-finals, University of Visual and Performing Arts and University of Sri Jayawardenapura will meet in the consolation final.

Apart from grabbing the men’s badminton champions trophy University of Sri Jayawardenapura women volleyballers went on to defeat University of Moratuwa by 3-0 (25-23 ,25-11, 25-20 ) in the semi-final worked off on the same day and qualified for the final.

Their opponents in the final will be UoK who overcame UoC in the other semi-final. It was a hard game for the winners as UoC won the first set by 25-19. University of Kelaniya won the second by 25-18. In the third set UoC came back to the game by winning the set by a lead of four points. UoK equalled the set score by winning the fourth set by 25-21. In the final set UoK won 15-7.

NETBALL

University of Colombo was crowned as SLUG 2013 Netball champions when they defeated Sabaragamuwa University by 41-31 after a hard fought final worked of at NYSC netball courts yesterday. University of Peradeniya won the third place when they overcame UoSJ by 39-26 at the same venue.
