Sri Lankan sprinter Chandrika Subhashini
Rasnayake was admitted to hospital, following problems with her food
yesterday morning. However she was discharged a few hours later and
she insists that she is ready to take on her pet event at the second
leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletic Championship which starts this
evening at the Chonburi Physical Education Campus Stadium.

Serena eases through, Tipsarevic out
World No.1 Serena Williams eased into the third
round of the Madrid Open with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Spain’s Lourdes
Dominguez Lino on Tuesday. The American had struggled early on in
her first-round match against Kazak qualifier Yulia Puntitseva, but
began much brighter as she broke Dominguez Lino straight away to
take command.

University of Sri Jayawardenapura men’s badminton champions
University of Sri Jayawardenapura won the men’s
badminton championship when they defeated University of Moratuwa at
UoM new gymnasium in the finals of the 11th Sri Lanka University
Games continued for the seventh day. Having lost to University of
Moratuwa in the first singles by 21-12, 21-14 University of Sri
Jayawardenapura won the second singles by 21-14, 21-15 and did the
same in the third singles by defeating their opponents by 21-14,
21-16. The champions also won the first doubles by 21-16,15-21,
21-19.

Cue wizard Ali pockets Grand Hotel snooker trophy
Twenty four year old MICH cue wizard Rauzan Ali
won the 5th Grand Hotel Snooker Championship defeating another
youngster M.Z.A. Zulfy of Romanz Pool Parlour. It was two days of
interesting snooker. Most of the cue sport loving holidaymakers
enjoyed the event. This is one of the most looked forward sporting
events of the season in Nuwara ELIYA.
