Man shot dead

Weeraketiya Police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man in Hakuruwela who was shot dead while on his way home on Monday by an unidentified gunman.

The victim was identified as K G Dushan Madusanka of Wakamulla.


Man drowns

A 21-year-old resident of Bombuwla, Kalutara drowned while bathing with his friends in Kalamulla sea in Payagala.

Navy divers launched a search operation to find the body. Payagala Police are investigating.


Farmer dies in hand tractor accident

A farmer who was seriously injured when a hand tractor overturned in a paddy field in Gomarankalla, succumbed to the injuries at Galenbindunuwewa Hospital on Monday.

Investigations revealed the incident occurred when the hand tractor he was operating, went out of control and overturned injuring him seriously.

The victim was identified as Kumudu Pradeep Senaviratne,24.


Family dispute ends in tragedy

A man in Ruwanwella died when he drank acid after allegedly attacking his wife with acid on Monday.

The woman who was seriously burnt, was rushed to Karawanella Hospital and then transferred to the Colombo National hospital.

Investigations revealed a family dispute led to the incident.

I P Premasiri Ratnapala, 46, died in the incident.


Suspect arrested with loot

Kelaniya Police arrested a suspect wanted in connection with several house breaking incidents and seized part of the loot in his possession.

He was arrested after the police received a complaint from a Sri Lankan working in Jordan that his house in Gonawala, Kelaniya had been broken in.

The Police seized three gold necklaces, a gold cross, two rings and two gold pendants in his possession. Further investigations revealed the suspect had stolen a digital camera he had stolen from a house in the same area. He was produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court yesterday.


Arrested with heroin

Modera Police arrested two suspects, residents of Ferguson Road with 19.590 and 3.100 grammes of heroin. Investigations are continuing.


Brothel raided

Four persons including three women were arrested when Gampaha Police raided a brothel in Yakkala on Monday night.

The women aged 21, 23 and 43 are residents of Kurunegala, Walawatte and Sadikka watte.

They were produced before the Gampaha Magistrate's Court yesterday.
