Power and Energy Minister Pavithra
Vanniarachchi held discussions with representatives from 53
Trade Unions attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)
regarding several matters related to the country’s power
sector. The discussions were held at the Power and Energy
Ministry. The Trade Union representatives promised to lend
their whole-hearted support to the minister to achieve the
aims and goals of the electricity sector. Power and Energy
Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara, Ministry Secretary
M.M.C.Ferdinando, Minister’s Private Secretary Sabaragamuwa
Provincial Council Chairman Kanchana Jayarathne and CEB
Chairman W.B.Ganegala were also present. |

US Ambassador Michele J Sison opened
a US government funded Rs 12 million renovated
children's park for residents of Karachchi, Kilinochchi with
the participation of Child Development and Women's
Empowerment Minister Tissa Karaliyadda. The newly renovated
park will provide a venue for recreation and strengthened
peaceful co-existence to over 22,000 families in the area,
including many resettled or returnee families.Sison said the
park will provide space for children, youth and adults to
meet; play and build relationships. The 75 perch park,
located on the A9 highway, will also benefit tourists and
contribute to the revitalisation of the Kilinochchi
district. The United States Agency for International
Development (USA ID) funded the renovation of the park,
which is located close to a newly constructed market complex
in Kilinochchi. |
