Wheels move for Hambantota irrigation project development

The government launched an extensive drive to develop old and
dilapidated agricultural irrigation projects in the Hambantota district,
Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He said the proposed projects include the reconstruction and
rehabilitation of Angunakola irrigation tank, Pinchiappuvidura tank,
Kandagasmankada irrigation channel, Badigammana Julgahakumbura tank,
Raluwa Ihala Road, Julketiya irrigation canal and the irrigation canal
from Bedigammana to Godawaya.
A total of 30 urgent irrigation activities are on the cards and all
are expected to be renovated soon, the minister said.
The project will cost Rs 60 million and is funded by the Disaster
Management Ministry.
The enhancement of irrigation facilities for paddy cultivation in the
Hambantota district is the aim of this endeavour, Amaraweera said.
