Uthayan Editor trying to fulfill petty political objectives -
Murugesu
Ridma Dissanayake and Rakshana Shriyantha
Uthayan Editor who has been publishing news and editorials arousing
communal hatred continuously, has published another article on May 2. It
says that Minister G. L. Peiris said that other countries need not
interfere in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.
If the government does not want interference, they should create
reconciliation. Sinhala leaders are responsible for racial conflict in
the country after Independence. In other words, these three races set
Sinhala leaders against each other. The government should grant equal
rights to all and uphold their identity, the Uthayan article said.
Then all will feel that this is their country. This will pave way for
reconciliation and keep foreign countries away from internal affairs of
Sri Lanka, it added.
"If we see things crossed eyed, then everything will seem wrong,"
said Northern Province Parliamentarian Murugesu Chandrakumar commenting
on the article. President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only leader who
follows most effective and practical ways to solve the conflict.
He initiated the Trilingual Programme and allocated huge sums of
money to establish language training centres islandwide to grant equal
rights for all, he said.
Everyone knows this including Uthayan Editor. But they are working to
fufill petty political objectives, he added.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only President who attends project
meetings islandwide and gives directions to speed up development
projects essential for the public, he said. "President Rajapaksa
attended progress review meetings in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya
and took immediate measures to solve problems of farmers by speaking to
directly to officers on the telephone. As Sri Lankans, we are blessed to
have such an efficient leadership to lead the country towards
development," MP Murugesu said.
