Yoghurt manufacturers in distress

Small scale yoghurt manufacturers in the Hambantota district complain
that they are not recognized by banks and lending institutions.
They say they are getting step-motherly treatment from these
institutions.
Appeal
Sisira Dissanayake of 31/9, Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe Mawatha, Kandy is
suffering from a chronic kidney disease and in end stage of renal
failure. The doctor treating him has recommended a kidney transplant to
save him. He needs A Positive or O Group kidney.
He is on regular twice a week haemodialysis at Sri Jayawardenapura
General Hospital and this has to be done until a kidney transplant is
carried out. The cost of the treatment is Rs 4,000,000.

Suspension bridge dilapidated

The suspension bridge over Kehelgamuoya on the Koswatte-Homagama Road
in the Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division is in a dilapidated
condition. The wooden planks fixed on the 120 feet long bridge
constructed by the Ambagamuwa North Village Council a few decades ago
have been decayed making a death trap for villagers travelling on the
Koswatte-Homagama Road.
Bridge needs repairs

The Madawala Watawanguwa bridge close to Madeena National College,
along the Madawala-Kandy Road is in a dilapidated condition. One side of
the bridge has been damaged.
The residents of the area say the bridge is about 60 years old and if
repairs are not carried out, it could collapse.
New bus service

A new bus service from Teldeniya to Negombo via Kandy, Kegalle,
Warakapola, Nittambuwa, Veyangoda and Minuwangoda was started by the
Teldeniya CTB depot recently.
Kurunegala principals to assist students

The Kurunegala District Government School Principals' Association has
made arrangements to conduct extra classes for students during weekends
and public holidays. Special conferences and workshops will also be
organized at electoral level in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.
Needy students will benefit from this. Several leading businessmen in
Kurunegala have volunteered to assist the programme.
Weheragala project redresses water woes

The Weheragala reservoir project has reduced the water scarcity of
the Hambantota district to a great extent. The construction work on the
project was handled by local engineers. The government spent Rs 182.2
million for the project. The water of the reservoir helps cultivate 500
acres of paddy at Kataragama and Sellakataragama.
Sand mining affects Kirama Oya

Excessive mechanized sand mining is causing destruction to the banks
of the Kirama Oya. The Kirama Oya starts from Walasmulla and flows to
the sea through the Tangalle town. It is in 20 miles long and provides
water for 6,000 acres of paddy.
The Weeraketya Irrigation Engineer said the matter has been brought
to the notice of Beliatta Police.
Development centre at neglected state

Several sections of the Suriyawewa development centre are not
functioning.
The centre was opened to provide vocational training for the youth
and technical know-how for the farming community in the area.
Medical camp
Kalmunai Zahira College Sri Lanka units students organised a free
medical camp for flood effected people in Sainthamuruthu and Maligaikadu
areas in Ampara district at Maligaikadu at Hussain Vidyalaya under the
patronage of the Kalmunai Ashroff Memorial Hospital on Sunday.
Patients were treated for skin diseases, heart problems, eye
diseases, blood pressure and other ailments.
Inculcating reading habit

The Sainthamaruthu Divisional Education Director’s Office has
instructed the schools under its purview to launch programmes to elevate
the reading habit among students. The Divisional Education Director has
instructed through the heads of schools and teachers to inculcate the
habit of reading to facilitate Knowledge acquisition.
Heavy vehicles damage road

Sand loaded heavy vehicles plying on the Nainakadu – Kuduri Road in
Ampara district, have damaged the road. Under this condition, common
transport activities have come to a standstill causing hardships to the
public.
Karaithivu Canal polluted

The Karaithivu thona canal crossing the Sainthamaruthu Divisional
Secretariat area is facing environment pollution creating difficulties
to thousands of families.
Some dwellers along the canal bunds have diverted the waste of their
toilets and other places while parts of animal carcasses from abattoirs
are also directed to the canal.
Ambulances for Sabaragamuwa hospitals

Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Maheepala Herath will distribute 40
ambulances among base and district hospitals in the province, which are
to be received from the central government, said Provincial Health
Service director Kapila Kannangara.
Errant trader in hot water

and cake for selling, was fined Rs. 3,000 by Morawaka District Judge
Kusalani Ayodya.
