SAITM to receive degree award status from UGC
South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM ) is the
first non state sector higher education institute in Sri Lanka to
receive the degree awarding status by the University Grants Commission
(UGC) of Sri Lanka. SAITM offers degree programmes in Engineering,
Medicine, Multimedia, Management and Finance.
SAITM has the most advanced facilities and state of the art
infrastructure, which provides the unique university experience at an
affordable cost.

It has built up its image as an opportunity provided for the students
who have not had the privilege to enter in to State Universities. SAITM
is proud of being supportive, flexible and relevant to the real world.
The teaching Faculty comprises of a team of highly qualified and
experienced academics recruited according to UGC guidelines. SAITM
faculty of engineering established in 2009 offers Bachelor of Science
(BSc.) in Engineering in the fields of Civil, Mechatronics, Electronics,
Bio Systems and Telecommunications in affiliation with the Asian
institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) which was established in
Bangkok in 1959, is a leading postgraduate institution in the Asia
Pacific region and is actively working with public and private sector
partners throughout the region and with some of the top Universities in
the world.
Recognized for its multinational, multi-cultural ethos, the Institute
operates as a self-contained international community at its campus
located 40 km (25 miles) north of Bangkok, Thailand.
Besides the usual labs and academic buildings, the main campus
includes housing, sports, and medical facilities, a conference center,
and a library with over 230,000 volumes and 830 print and on-line
periodicals.
AIT is a degree awarding university fully recognized by the
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.
AIT offers many scholarships at MSc and PhD levels to the graduates
of Sri Lankan State Universities currently accommodating a student
population of over 3000, including many Sri Lankan Students. AIT boasts
of over 25,000 Alumni spread across the world attached to many leading
organizations.
Research Symposium on Engineering Advancements (RSEA) organized by
SAITM faculty of engineering marks the 3rd occasion this annual event is
held.
In fact RSEA is the pioneering and the only research symposium
organized by a non-state sector higher education institute in Sri Lanka.
It will no doubt enhance the research competencies of the SAITM
engineering students making them stand out in the engineering profession
when they graduate.
Already it is evident the positive contributions previous symposiums
had on the students.
The event is participated by over 300 from the academia, professional
and student communities representing state universities, industries and
statuary bodies with over 50 research papers to be presented at the
sessions.
Key note speeches are to be made by Prof. M.P. Ranaweera (Emertus
Professor, University of Peradeniya), Prof. J. B. Ekanayake (of
Peradeniya) and Prof. Abdul Salam (Asian Institute of Technology,
Thailand). Chairman of SAITM Dr. Neville Fernando and Dean Faculty of
Engineering Dr. Sisuru Sendanayake were present at the event.
