Alloy MTD Group of Companies based in Malaysia have invested USD$35
million for two pilot projects for the construction of apartment
complexes in Galle and Habaraduwa. Being the projects main shareholders,
the group had initially started construction on the Galle site in 2006
and concluded operations in the beginning of 2012. The Habaraduwa
project would be concluded soon.
This is the biggest apartment complex outside the Western Province.
“Lighthouse Residence Apartments in Wakunagoda City, Galle was built
to cater mainly to government servants and civilian residents.
The apartments are categorized into two groups; medium cost and high
cost,” said Shameel Shibly, General Manager, Wincon Development Ceylon
(Pvt) Ltd said.
The land for the projects was funded through the government, while
local architectural expertise provided for the projects are by
Architects Co-Partnership. Galle apartment complex offers three floors
plus the ground floor, which include 192 apartments for the Medium cost
segment.
In addition another nine floors plus the ground floor is offered for
the high cost category which includes 320 apartments. MTD Group of
Companies is one of the biggest development companies in Malaysia and
Wincon Development Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd., subcontracted with MTD Group for
the project.
