‘Be vigilant of false rumours’
P Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
Plantation workers and others residing in the Nuwara Eliya district
and the hill country should be alert of false rumours spread to arouse
communal disharmony, said Member of Parliament and Ceylon Workers’
Congress Senior Vice President Rajadurai.
He was addressing a gathering at Court Lodge Estate, Kandapola after
laying the foundation stone for a water project. The project cost Rs 6
million.
Funds were released by the Economic Development Ministry under the
directions of Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Rajadurai said plantation workers came to then Ceylon almost 200
years ago and worked hard for their economic sustenance and well being
of this country.
They lived in the way of life propagated by Mahathma Gandhi's
doctrine. Hence, the same trend has continued in this part of the
country, despite 30 years war, he said.
“At the moment both in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, certain quarters are
attempting to arouse communal disharmony for cheap political gains,” he
said adding, “therefore the masses, particularly the plantation people
should be cautious and vigilant against such moves”.
He said President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a leader who is committed to
maintain peace and deliver development dividends to all irrespective of
linguistic barriers.
He requested all sections of the masses to support this government
and President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
