Old Centralites win annual 50-over encounter

Shelton of Old Centralites slammed 154 runs, which included 9 sixes and 10 fours in the Annual Central -– St. John’s Old Boys cricket encounter played on last Sunday at Jaffna Central Grounds.

This knock brought the victory to the Old Centralites and earned him the Man of the Match Award. This young guy, an undergraduate of Jaffna University, captained Jaffna Central under19 in 2009 and Jaffna University Cricket Team last year.

Elected to bat, Centralites scored a mammoth 320 in their allotted 50 overs. Apart from Shelton’s knock, Jenosan (37) and Mathusan (34) made some useful contributions for the Old Centralites. Five Johnian bowlers shared 2 wickets each. Johnians chased this target courageously and reached 305 in 50 overs.

The highlight of the Old Johnians innings was the knock of Ahilan, who made a lightning 112 with 13 sixes and 5 fours. Dr.Gowribahan made a useful 37 while Kandeepan’s contribution was 32 for the Johnians. The Central old boys Vathusanan and Jasinthan claimed 3 wickets each.
