If there were any efforts by its diplomats in
Geneva to show that India has the strength to “water down” the US
sponsored resolution proposed at the current United Nations Human
Rights Commission (UHRC) sessions in Geneva, these were completely
thwarted by what is taking place back home in Tamil Nadu and New
Delhi.

Bandaranaike -- the Great Sinhala -Buddhist Liberal
At the annual SLFP convention held in Kurunegala
in 1959 Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was feeling the
rising heat of the right-wing forces, within his own party, ganging
up against him. There were several disaffected forces railing
against him but the most vicious and deadly thrust was spearheaded
by the business-oriented, right-wing Buddharakkita Thera, head of
the Kelaniya Temple. His arrival at the Kurunegala session turned
heads with all eyes focused on him.
