Moratu Vidyalaya in strong position

Moratu Vidyalaya is in the box seat at the end of day one in their
inter-school annual 61st Big Match against Sri Sumangala College,
Panadura for the Battle of the Golds which was worked off at Tyronne
Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa.
Sumangala Skipper called the coin correctly and invited Vidyalian
captain Ishan Nilaksha Peiris to take the first lease but his gamble
failed.
For Vidyalians Thilan Kavishka and Sumindu Maduranga opened batting
and put on 31 runs for the first wicket and with the exit of Kavishka
Ushen Tharuk joined Maduranga and when the score was at 66 Ushan Tharuka
departed Sanesh Champaka joined the opener and brought the score to 93
and at this stage Champaka was out and skipper Ishan Nilaksha joined
Maduranga.
When the score was 116 Maduranga was out for a well compiled 45 runs
which included three fours. Then Peiris and Patum Madura brought the
score to 139 and at 139 with the departure of Madura Dushan Sulakshan
joined the captain and had a very valuable Partnership of 61 runs for
the fifth wicket and Peiris unluckily got out for 49 runs which included
five fours. When the deleration came Dushan Sulakshana was unbeaten on
25 runs.
Sumangalians started disasterouly losing their wickets at regular
intervals with opener Shavinda Devinda, Sandun Silva and Samith Yasantha
out for ducks Vishad Randika and skipper Taraka Nadeeshan were out for
16 and 19 runs respectively and at the close visitors were reeling at 51
for 6 with Dushan Sulakshana 3 for 14 and Ishan Peiris 2 for 12 doing
the damage.
