Upul Sanjeewa on road to glory

Upul Sanjeewa of Police Special Task Force (STF) emerged victorious
in the ‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2013’ (Air Force Cycling Tour) by
covering a total distance of 425 kilometres in 10 hours. He was Born in
1974 at Rajagiriya and studied at Siri Perakumba Maha Vidyalaya,
Rajagiriya.
From his school days Sanjeewa showed his talents in cycling and
athletics.
He started his sporting career in 1994, three years after ending his
school education and participated at cycling tours in standard event and
claimed many victories.
Ending fourth in the Night Cycle Tour held at Moratuwa, sixth place
in the seven-day President’s Trophy Cycle Tour , fourth place in the Fit
Wheel Cycling Tour in 2005, third place in the racing cycle segment
Cycle Tour at Kurana in 2005, finishing runners-up in the Madampelle
Cycling Tournament in 2006, and the fifth place of the Rupavahini Cycle
Tournament in 2005 are some of his sporting career's significant
milestones.
He has brought glory to his motherland by bagging silver medals at
the timing tour and road tour in Colombo South Asian Games, 2006.
Sanjeewa, who became the overall champion in the ‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi
Sawariya 2013’ thanks his wife Lalani, his two kids, parents, brothers,
sisters, Inspector General of Police N.K.Illangakoon, Police Special
Task Force Commanding Officer DIG R.W.M.C.Ranawana, senior DIG and
Police cycling Chairman Lalith Jayasinghe, SSP and Secretary of the
