Five hospitalised after fire

Five people were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with burn injuries after a house in Meegahawatte and a fireworks factory in Kibulapitiya, Negombo caught fire on Monday. A man and a woman were injured in the fire at the factory. Meegahawatte and Negombo Police are investigating.

Arrested with guns

Two suspects were arrested with two trap guns and a muzzle loader in Higgaha by Bulathsinghala Police. They were produced before the Matugama Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Two bodies found

Beruwala Police commenced an investigation in to the death of a man whose body was found under a railway bridge in Idirillagoda in Beruwala on Monday. The victim, P H Janitha Kumarasiri, 46, of Maggona had been reported missing since Sunday. Meanwhile, a body of an unidentified man was found in Udammita by Nittambuwa Police. The man believed to be a beggar appears to be around 55 years. He had long grey hair and was wearing blue shorts.

Couple commit suicide

A couple committed suicide by hanging at their house in Nochchimuna, Kattankudi Police reported.

The victims were identified as Nalratnam Dyalan, 34, and his wife Thawaraja Gajendrani, 28.

The bodies were sent to the Batticaloa Hospital morgue.

Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, Godakawela Police commenced an investigation in to the death of a 55 – year - old woman who drowned in Thudawa Oya in Godakawela while bathing on Sunday.
