Rogue pharmacy raided in Battaramulla

The National Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Authority (CDDA) officials raided an illegally operated drugs store in Battaramulla yesterday following information received from the public, a Health Ministry spokesman said. According to the spokesman the drugs store had sold drugs for over two years and also operated as a drug distribution centre. The shop had not been registered with the Authority.

The raid was conducted under the direction of CSSA Director Dr. Hemantha Benaragama. The officials took into custody drugs worth half a million rupees and sealed the shop. The persons who operated the shop will be produced before courts on March 21, he said. The CDDA will act immediately on all information provided by the public and raid all illegal private pharmacies operating without a license and registration. It will also raid private pharmacies which do not follow relevant rules and regulations imposed by the CDDA in connection with storing and selling drugs.

The public always provide information on private pharmacies operating illegally and violate the rules and regulations, he added.
