CWC condemns TN incidents

The Indian community in Sri Lanka is deeply concerned over the incidents taken place over the last couple of days in Tamil Nadu. The Ceylon Workers Congress strongly condemns the attack on religious dignitaries and Sri Lankan pilgrims in India.

'Such incidents are unwarranted and should be avoided at all cost,' a spokesman said. Issuing a media release the CWC states, "Attacks on civilians and religious dignitaries in India are unacceptable and we request that the central government of India and Tamil Nadu government provide adequate safety measures and protection to the pilgrims as well as other Sri Lankan citizens and institutions in India.

Sri Lanka and India enjoy long historical, cultural and religious ties and such incidents perpetrated by some misguided and ill-informed elements ought to be totally discouraged and should not be allowed to damage the long standing relationship between the people of Sri Lanka and India.
