The hero is dead

Weeraya Merila (The Hero is dead ) will be staged once again on March 23 at Navarnagahala at 3.30 and 6.30 pm. Weeraya Merila has bagged seven awards at the State Drama Festival which includes the award for the best drama of the year( in 2002).Director is renown dramatist / director Rajitha Dissanayaka.

This drama showcases the darker role of the modern media of exploiting the prominent personalities (could be intellectuals or artists or professionals) of the society as tools to achieve their consumer focused agendas and the unfortunate fate eventually such personalities have to face with.

The popular dramas such as Maname of famous Sarachchandra have been kept with undiminished popularity among Sri Lankan drama viewers over generations. Possibly in somewhat similar manner talented young dramatists, such as Rajitha, too are successful in keeping the viewers flocked and bound with modern dramas. This drama has been staged over past years uninterruptedly.

Theme of the drama is also very much valid and relevant in today’s context.
