Felicitating Punchihewa

His writings have enriched this society. He is a prominent figure in
many areas. Being a multi talented person, he has been contributing to
the society in every possible way. S G. Punchihewa is known to be a
great human, who is an academic, active in many areas.
Celebrating his 80th birthday on March 12, a felicitation ceremony
was held at the Jayawardene Centre in Colombo. A collection of books
were also launched to coincide with the felicitation. ‘Pana Labu
Chitraya’, ‘Nadi Allima’, ‘Thisahamige Kawi’, ‘Pura wasi Pethsama’ and
‘Minis Asiriya’ are written by Punchihewa. In addition, another book on
Punchihewa, ‘S G. Punchihewa Sithuwili Wiwarana’ edited by
Thimbiriyagama Bandara and Lionel Guruge was also launched to honour
him.

in many perspectives politically, economically and culturally, Denagma
Siriwardene, an eminent writer stressed that Punchihewa is a
multi-talented bold character who possesses the capacity of undertaking
any work assigned to him. He has been initially backed by his family
background and later he has built his personality independently
excelling in many areas.
According to Siriwardene, Punchihewa took his first step in writing
when he was 13 year old. Punchihewa has worked as a teacher, school
principal, lawyer, writer and a radical thinker in many areas. He speaks
four languages fluently. He is a sportsman mastered in karate and
swimming.
Being a lawyer, he has worked towards upgrading human rights in Sri
Lanka. He has supported a lot of people in many ways and he has penned
down much to enrich the society.
Through his every book, Punchihewa has discussed about a social,
cultural or a political issue. His works are more related with ordinary
people and their issues. His ideas, purposes and objectives are mainly
based on the betterment of ordinary people in the society.
He values humanity and social equality rather than power and money.
