Moratuwa Methodist Church To Stage Play
Ishara Jayawardane
The Moratuwa Methodist Church supported by other churches in the
circuit along with a few Buddhists, plan on staging a play touching on
the Suffering Death, and Resurrection of Christ. Moratuwa Methodist
church has done similar plays but not on such a grand scale. The stage
will of course be larger than life- a huge stage. There will be seven
stages. When a scene on one stage is over the light over that stage will
go off closing the end of that scene, and the lights above another stage
go on beginning another scene. There will be a cast of 300 thespians.
This is the first time something like this is taking place. There is a
seating capacity of around 6000. Everything is free.
A lot of Television stations have promised to cover the event.
Tennyson Cooray and Sriyantha Mendis, Jagath Chamila will be acting on
stage. The entire cost of the production is One million rupees. The show
is being sponsored by certain organizations and certain banks and
furniture shops. The biggest feature of the show are the stages that
have been positioned in a different way giving a novel effect. The
organizers are expecting a crowd of around 10,000.
The Moratuwa church is of course attempting a show like this because
of the variety of talent they have in their church who have some
theatrical experience. The stages itself cost four lakh and they are in
desperate need of funding. It will be staged at Moratumulla High School.
The idea of holding a play like this was conceived three to four months
ago.
The play will be staged on 30th March at 7pm at Methodist College.
