Peterites in runaway 50 -12 win over Antonians

St.Peter’ College Colombo scored their first victory for the current
inter-school rugby season when they beat St Anthony’s College Kandy by
50 points(six goals, a try and a penalty) to 12 (a goal and a try) in
the Singer under 20 league division one segment ‘A’ match played at Air
Force Grounds, Ratmalana yesterday.
Centre Dilanka Perera opened the Peterites account in the third
minute with a try which was successfully converted by Jerome
Canute.Again in the fifth minute Perera scored his second try with
Canute adding the extra points(14-0).In the 9th and 10th minutes Akila
Ranchigoda scored two tries while it was successfully converted by
Canute(28-0). In the 14 th minute Canute fired across a 25 metre penalty
making it 31 - 0 for St.Peter’s.
The lads from Kandy entered the game when Yakoob Ali scored try while
full back Ajith Hemantha made the conversion(7-31). Winger Avishka
Heenpella earned a try in the 38th minute and gave Canute an easy
kick(38-7).
A few minutes before halftime Canute scored the second penalty for
Peterites and the scores read 43 - 07 at half time.
The lads from Kandy couldn’t make much headway as the Peterites had a
powerful pack with a strong defence and better tactics. Peter’s scored
another try through Kevin Dickson with Canute making no mistake with the
conversion (50 -07)
The Anthonians scored a try in the dying stages of the game through
Yakoob Ali. |
