Deep sea fishing facilitated

Fishermen have been granted permission to tarry in deep sea by the
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Jaffna District Assistant
Director. This move will enable fishermen to wait in deep sea for days.
Infant sold for Rs 30,000
Kayts Police arrested a woman who sold her five month-old infant to a
couple from Chunnakam. The couple at Chunnakam in a welfare camp had
offered Rs 30,000 for the infant. Kayts Police arrested the seller and
the purchaser and produced them before the Kayts Magistrate’s Court.
Met Dept predicts rain
Showers or thundershowers will be experienced in the Eastern province
today. Showers or thundershowers will develop over most parts in the
other areas of the island particularly during the afternoon or night,
the Met Department said yesterday.
The department also predicted temporary localised fairly strong winds
during thundershowers.
Kumbabiseka festival
The Kumbabiseka festival of Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, Colombo 7
will be held on March 18 at 10.17 am.
Fund raiser
A fund raising project organised by the Girls’ Friendly Society will
be held at the GFS Hall, Green Path, Colombo on March 20. The project is
being held to raise funds to continue its services and renovate the five
decade old hostel which provides accommodation for women.

The annual get - together and the 40th year celebration of Matara St
Thomas Kumara Vidyalaya, Colombo branch will be held today at 5 pm at
Sasakawa Hall, Colombo.
