Snake ‘joke’ goes too far

A man under the influence of liquor who tried to catch a viper (polaga), died when he was stung by it. G W Nishantha Lakmal, 27, a resident of Ingiriya tried the catch the viper in an ant – hill.

The viper stung the man and he was admitted to Ingiriya Hospital where he died. Lakmal who worked as a trishaw driver in Ingiriya town married two months ago. The post - mortem was held yesterday. District Medical Officer O A M E Ekanayaka in his report said Lakmal died due to being stung by a viper. Ingiriya Police led evidence.
