An opening stand of 101 runs between skipper Kusal Mendis 85 and
Suchira Fernando 36 enabled Prince of Wales College to declare at 258
for 9 in their inter-school under 19 cricket match against Gurukula
Vidyalaya worked off at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa. Kusal's
elegant knock consisted of ten fours and one six facing 101 balls and
Suchira passed the 500 mark in the process of his innings. In form
batsman and all-rounder Shanuka Dulaj scored 56 runs while Crishen
Aponso contributed 35 runs. Hashan Dumindu bowled best to claim 4 for
35.
At the end of day-one Gurukula too in a strong position with 165 for
4 with Lisula Lakshan unbeaten on 99 runs. Jayanga Peiris claimed 3 for
23.
