Castro meets US lawmakers in Cuba
President Raul Castro on Tuesday welcomed a
delegation of US lawmakers, the first to come to Cuba since US
President Barack Obama's re-election, the media reported. "Foreign
Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla took part in the meeting, and
issues of interest to both countries were addressed," a statement
read out on the government news broadcast said.

Saudi women take seats in Sahura Council for first time
Thirty Saudi women took seats in Saudi Arabia’s
Shura Council, for the first time in the ultra-conservative
kingdom’s history, as they were sworn in before King Abdullah on
Tuesday at his palace in Riyadh. The women took their seats in the
same room with their 130 male colleagues and were sworn in
collectively, state television said. “The development we are working
at must be gradual,” King Abdullah said in a brief statement
broadcast on state television.

Blasts near a Syrian Presidential palace
Two mortar shells fired by “terrorists” exploded
near Tishreen presidential palace in the Syrian capital on Tuesday,
causing some damage but no casualties, state media said. The mortars
“landed near the southern wall of Tishreen palace, only causing
material damage”, state news agency SANA quoted an unnamed official
as saying.
