Carlton Super Sports Mountain Biking, a big draw
Tharunyata Hetak organization in collaboration with National Mountain
Biking Association will conduct the Carlton Super Sports Mountain Biking
Championship 2013 at Tissa on March 1. The programme will commence at
7.a.m. with a Cycling Rally “CYCLONE” a free for all ride, and
organizers hope to attract about 2000 cyclists from all walks of life to
parade with the theme of “go green with cycling”.
According to the vision of Tharunyata Hetak chairman and Hambantota
District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, National Mountain Biking
Association will have children from remote schools in Hambathota to take
up to mountain biking, which is now very popular in Hambanthota thanks
to Carlton Super Sports .
Many well wishers have come forward to organize this mega event and
Zonal Education Directors of Hambanthota, Tangalle, Walasmulla and
Hakmana shown great interest and will attract over 1000 lads from
schools to parade with cycling program.
The three Forces and the Police of Hambanthota will field their
mobile units to parade and all self employed youth who use bicycles will
also join. This parade will start from Debarawewa junction and proceed
to Ceylon Auto Drome track plying seven kms.
The mountain biking championship will start at 9.30 am at the Ceylon
Autodrome track built by experts to host eleven events , for age groups
of 10 year to 19 years of both genders. The track will have seven
obstacles consisting of Ramps, Jumps, foot paths ,loops, down hills and
climbs making the events adventurous.
The men and women open events where all veterans of mountain biking
including units from Army, Air Force, Navy and Police will vie for
honours along with village lads. Over 500,000 in cash and gifts for
winners with medals and certificates await the long list of over 100
awards to be given for participants, in order to promote the sport in
the villages.
Besides this, organizers have also introduced a event for fun riders
and masters, so it will become a sport for all age groups.
