Royal in strong position

Royal College Colombo were in a strong position in their inter schools under 19 match against Thurstan College helped by two fine innings by Roanaka Ahangamage and Hashen Ramanayake at Thurstan Grounds yesterday.

Royal were boosted by a fine third wicket stand of 130 runs between opener Roanaka Ahangamage (70) and Hashen Ramanayake (87). Roanaka had eight power packed boundaries in his fine knock while Hashen had 12 boundaries in his well compiled innings. Royal at one stage were 194 for 3 wickets but irresponsible batting by their lower middle order batsmen Chamika Karunaratne, skipper Devind Pathmanathan and Poorna Aluthge who threw away their wickets saw Royal lose their last seven wickets for a mere 31 runs.Spinners Rajitha Perera and Minhaj Jaleel did the damage by capturing 3 for 84 and 2 for 35 respectively.

The Thurstanites in reply were reeling at 98 for 9 in 33 overs with paceman Anupa Tillekeratne (3 for nine) and the spin duo of Poorna Aluthge (2 for 15) and Devind Pathmanathan (2 for 25) being the wreckers.

Royal : 225 in 51.3 overs (Hashen Ramanayake 87, Roanaka Ahangamage 70, Milan Abeysekara 27, Heshan Kumarasiri 18, Ramindu Kumarasinghe 3 for 23, Rajitha Perera 3 for 84, Minhaj Jaleel 2 for 35)

Thurstan : 98 for 9 in 33 overs (Kavindu Kulasekara 21, Anupa Tillekeratne 3 for 9, Poorna Aluthge 2 for 15, Devind Pathmanathan 2 for 25)

Easy for Peterites

St.Peter’s scored their second successive win by overcoming Lumbini College by an innings and 12 runs in their match concluded at Colts Ground, Havelock Park yesterday. Resuming their first innings at 42 for 7, Lumbini were bundled out for 115 with Rafan Mannan making the only resistance with 43. Left arm leg spinner Julian de Zilva was the destroyer with 4 for 37 ably supported by Sudhil Dissanayake ( 3 for 16) and Dushan Hemantha ( 2 for 21).

Following on, they didn’t fare much better being shot out for 117. Chamara Nishantha (29) and Mohammed Akram(23) making useful contributions.Skipper Dushan Hemantha (5 for 28) did the damage with the assistance of Crishan Fernando 3 for 26.

St.Peter’s : 244 for 9 declared in 71 overs (Shasheen Fernando 57, Janith Liyanage 58, Lahiru Milantha 42, Chemila Obeyesekere 35n.o, Julian de Zilva 28, Chamara Nishantha 3/83, Janith Dias 2/42, Tharushan Iddamalgoda 2/49)

Lumbini : 115 in 36.2 overs (Rafan Mannan 43, Sajith Sankalanana 19, Julian de Zilva 4 for 37, Sudhil Dissanayake 3 for 16, Dushan Hemantha 2 for 21) and 117 in 47.1 overs ( Chamara Nishantha 29, Mohammed Akram 23, Sajith Sankalanana 20, Dushan Hemantha 5 for 28, Crishan Fernando 3 for 26)
