PC takes own life

A Police Constable committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Nagala , Bibile on Sunday night.

The deceased D M Bandula, 37, attached to Buttala Police was a father of two. He was found dead after admission to Bibile Base Hospital.

Bibile Police are investigating.


Garbage removal motion passed

The Malimbada Pradeshiya Sabha at its last meeting presided over by Chairman Somasiri Weeraman passed a motion on removing garbage. Accordingly, Rs 75 will be collected from each house in the administrative area of the PS and Rs 100 from business places for this purpose.

The chairman tabled the motion in this regard and vice chairman P G Palitha Kumara seconded it.


Rain stops farming

Navaratna Banadara- Mahaweli systems group corr

Work of local farmers in the Mahaweli A Zone had stopped due to rain which began on January 23. Wet weather condition is reported in the areas of Kanthale, Seruvila and Muttur.

This is the harvest time in these areas but farmers are unable to carry out work in their fields as most fields are inundated.

St. Joseph’s to felicitate Chief Justice

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo has organised a reception to felicitate new Chief Justice Mohan Peiris on Janyary 31 at 5pm.The reception will be preceded by Holy Mass and a Thanksgiving service. The Eucharistic celebration will held in the St Joseph’s College Chapel.

The event is organised by Rector Rev. Fr. Sylvester Ranasinghe as president and Council of Management of the Old Boys Union of St Joseph’s College.


Heart patient seeks help

D W Sandya Pushparani,35, of Lansigodella, Sadalankawa is suffering from a serious heart ailment.

According to Consultant Cardiologist M. B.F. Rahuman, Sandya needs an immediate surgery which costs Rs. 250, 000. Sandya is unemployed and her family finds it difficult to bear the cost and seeks financial assistance from the public.
