Snakes gone loose in bus

Nine snakes found inside a CTB bus proceeding from Kandy to Kurunegala around 9 pm on January 27 caused a major uproar among the passengers.

Passengers who were confused to find snakes creeping under their seats soon alerted Galagedara Police.

Officers attached to Galagedara Police who rushed to the scene found three pythons and a torque monkey in addition to the snakes on the bus.

Four members of a nomadic community engaged in snake charming for a livelihood had been carrying the animals in boxes and the snakes had broken free from the boxes without their knowledge.

Police said they found a python wrapped round the bus driver when they arrived.

The four men were apprehended by the Police and escorted to the Police station.

They were due to be produced before the Galagedara magistrate for causing public nuisance.
