Heavy fine on power pirate

A suspect who pirated power by manipulating an electricity metre was fined Rs 278,883 by Matara Chief Magistrate Udesh Ranatunga. This was made up of Rs 10,000 as court fine and Rs 268,883 as compensation to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). According to CEB officials the suspect had been carrying out power piracy for a long time.

CEB Special Investigation Division officials and Akuressa Police jointly conducted the raid.
