President condoles with Brazil
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent a message of condolence to
Federative Republic of Brazil President Dilma Rousseff, following the
deadly night club fire that killed hundreds of people. "I was also
deeply distressed to learn that most of the victims were outstanding
young scholars from the Federal
University of Brazil," President Rajapaksa said in his statement."The
government and the people of Sri Lanka join me in conveying our
heartfelt and profound condolences to the bereaved families and offer
prayers to those who have been severely injured in this disaster," the
President said.
The full text of President Rajapaksa's message:
"It is with sorrow and dismay that I learnt of the tragic loss of
many lives in the fire that engulfed a night club in Santa Maria.
I was also deeply distressed to learn that most of the victims were
outstanding young scholars from the Federal University of Brazil.
The government and the people of Sri Lanka join me in conveying our
heartfelt and profound condolences to the bereaved families and offer
prayers to those who have been severely injured in this disaster.
At this difficult hour, our thoughts are with you and the people of
Brazil. I am confident that with the characteristic courage and
fortitude of your people, they will be able to find solace to overcome
their sorrow. The government and people of Sri Lanka stand with you in
solidarity as your country comes to terms with this tragic loss.
