'GN planned to rob from flood relief fund'

A Grama Niladhari attached to the Ambalantota Divisional Secretariat attempted to rob Rs 1,100,000 from the disaster fund without providing relief to the flood - hit , Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said. The minister was addressing a meeting at Magama Tissamaharama where he distributed relief items among the flood affetced.

He said certain Grama Niadharis who were also affected by the floods, performed their duties to the utmost satisfaction.

The minister said this particular Grama Niladhari tried to play out a collosal sum by not providing relief measures to the flood stricken.

The minister said this type of malpractices will not be tolerated by him and this official will be taken to task and dealt with.
