The tree planting programme was held at Battaramulla opposite the
Parliament grounds under the theme ‘A Healthy Environment'.
FKC has planted 64 Naa saplings at the premises, since the project
was started in 2011.
“This initiative of planting trees along the road by FKC is
appreciated by the CEA as it helps beautify the environment,” CEA senior
environment officer Lakmini Radhika said participating at the
inauguration ceremony of FKC's second anniversary celebrations.
“Trees improve air quality by filtering harmful dust and pollutants
such as ozone, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide from the air we
breath.
Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion
and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding.
Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide
food, protection and shelter for many birds and mammals, ”she said. |
