PEOPLE’S POWER THROUGH
PARLIAMENT
Parliament has
exercised the people’s power vested
in it by the Constitution in
entertaining the impeachment motion
against the Chief Justice , Minister
Dilan Perera said. He was addressing
a media conference organised by the
People’s Movement for Justice in
Colombo yesterday. He said
impeachment is the only means of
acting against misconduct of a Chief
Justice. That power is vested in
Parliament under Section 107 of the
Constitution.

Govt. to apply curbs on
housemaid jobs
The Sri Lanka
Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE)aims
to reduce females migrating for
overseas jobs as domestic aides by
80-90 per cent by 2020. “We do not
approve females going for overseas
work as domestic aides. However, we
cannot put a full stop to it
immediately. Therefore, we have
launched a number of programmes to
upgrade their skills and find more
gainful employment in specialized
vocations,” SLBFE chairman Amal
Senalankadikara said.
