The 23-member junior pool celebrated its first anniversary recently
with some remarkable triumphs by its members over the past year.
It seemed to be a tough task in the beginning as the players were not
up to the required standard, but the three coaches namely Nuwan Sampath,
Gayan Dilupa and Vajira Wickkramasinghe together with physical trainer
instructor Fernando of Sri Lanka Air Force have rendered a commendable
service to put these juniors into the right track.
With a systematic training schedule the juniors came up with
impressive performances tournament by tournament proving their training
has moulded them well.
The WPTTA Secretary Chandana Perera thanked the parents of junior
pool members for they have been very helpful to assure the continuity of
pool practices with their financial assistance for hall charges, coaches
fees and refreshments.
"Parents' encouragement has been vital for these juniors to come up
with their best performances during the tournaments and they have been
backing them all the way to success," he said.

WPTTA also pays their gratitude to the Principal and the OBA of
Lalith Athulathmudali College, Mt Lavinia for providing all necessary
facilities to pool practices.
The biggest recent achievement of WP junior paddlers came out in the
All Island Ranking Junior Tournament held in Kurunegala. The pool
members bagged the victories of under 10 boys singles by Dewmith
Weerasena , under 12 boys singles by Lithmina Mahanama, under 12 girls
singles by Hansani Piyumila and under 15 girls single runner-up by
Chamathsara Fernando. |
