Colombo is ready for the second edition of the Colombo night races
and it is expected to be far more advanced than the first one held last
year according to the organizers. Starting from 7.00p.m. today evening,
fans at the heart of Colombo are in for a treat when the local and
international flavour of motor racing will be providing the maximum
entertainment.
Seven Car events and four Motor Cycle events are scheduled to be run
on this day and this glamorous event is organized by the Carlton Motor
Sports Club and conducted by Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and Sri
Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC).
The drivers and riders took part in the timing process last night and
the GT-3 and GT-4 category has attracted drivers from Malaysia,
Indonesia and Japan, providing the much awaited international racing
experience. Sri Lanka’s very own international GT3-GT4 star, Dilantha
Malagamuwa will also be in action this evening.
This year McLarens 1300 event is an addition to the Colombo Night
Races with ten cars arriving on to the track.
These will be driven by local experts as well as up and coming young
drivers. VW Polo Cup Race will see seven Indian drivers in action along
with three local drivers Upulwan Serasinghe, Sumanapala Mannapperuma and
Romani de Silva.
It was also noted that the SL-GT Super Cars up to 3500cc race
attracted the 24 drivers which is the highest recorded for a race of
this nature.
